Reaching out to the Community
Working at All Star requires creativity, ingenuity – and a whole lot of generosity. How else can you explain the hundreds of volunteer hours our employees spend each year delivering meals to those in need, collecting school supplies for underprivileged students, and repairing hiking trails in Washington’s woodlands?
It starts at the top with a commitment from ASD’s leaders to pay employees two days a year to volunteer with a nonprofit agency of their choice. Then they sweeten the deal with multiple monetary donations based off a percentage of All Star’s profits. Employees round out the giving with cash proceeds from staff-led fundraising drives throughout the year. The result? A whole lot of happiness—and thankfulness—within our community.
See what we’ve been up to!
Lowell Elementary School Supply Drive
Sixty-seven percent of students at Seattle’s Lowell Elementary qualify for reduced-cost or free lunches, and around 20% are in transitional housing or experiencing homelessness. All Star recently helped ease the burden by collecting school supplies, cleaning supplies, and snacks for all three of the school’s Kindergarten classes.
Ronald McDonald House
Ronald McDonald House is a nonprofit with a mission to support the families of children undergoing serious medical procedures. All Star employees have jumped in repeatedly to help the organization and the families it serves. ASD team members with a green thumb spent several hours with the Master Gardener Foundation of King County to tidy the property’s flower beds and ready them for winter, while others prepared dozens of casseroles for families of hospitalized children.
YWCA Adopt-a-Family
For the past several years, All Star employees have participated in YWCA of Seattle, King, and Snohomish County’s Adopt-a-Family program; fulfilling the entire Christmas wish list of seven families. In 2020, employees donated $1,200 in gift cards to complete Thanksgiving gift baskets for several families.
Bread of Life Mission
The ASD team has supported Bread of Life Mission, a Seattle-based organization that helps people experiencing homelessness, in many ways. Employees have donated nearly 650 toothcare items and nearly 50 winter coats (and one dog coat!) to residents, hosted a sock drive, helped serve lunch to residents, wrapped holiday gifts, and kicked in hundreds of dollars in cash donations.
Seattle Urban Academy
ASD has an ongoing relationship with the Seattle Urban Academy, a small, nonprofit Christian high school. Several times each year, employees prepare and serve breakfast and lunch for the students and staff. All Star team members have also stepped in to assist with the academy’s post-graduation ceremony celebrations.
YouthCare Used Coat Drive
ASD employees hold an annual used winter coat drive for YouthCare, a Seattle-based shelter for young people experiencing homelessness. Employees have collected and donated 75 coats and four bags of clothing to donate to the nonprofit. All Star has partnered frequently with YouthCare over the years, donating clothing and cooking meals.
